We all are aware of the popular saying since our childhood–An apple a day keeps the doctor away. But just eating an apple is not enough. They play a crucial role in maintaining the overall health and wellness of an individual. However, the maximum benefit of a fruit can be reaped only by having them at an appropriate time and manner.
Here are some guidelines about how to eat fruits the RIGHT way:
• In The Morning On An Empty Stomach
The best time to eat fruits is in the morning after having a glass of water on an empty stomach. When eaten alone, a stomach can process the fibers and the essential nutrients present in the fruits quite easily. Having fruits in the morning also gives a powerful alkaline kick-start to the day ahead.
• Have Them Between Meals
When eaten between the meals, all the nutrients, vitamins and the sugars in fruits are easily absorbed by the body. This practice will ensure that your body has benefitted exceptionally from the fruits you have eaten.
• Fruits Are Not Good As Desserts
The basic health rule says that if fruits are eaten right after a meal, then they will accumulate in the stomach for a longer time and after getting mixed up with other foods they will ferment and cause various digestion related issues such as heartburn, acidity, indigestion, burping etc. Thus, the right time to have them is either about 1 hour before the meal or 2 hours after meals.
• Have Them Before Or After Workout
Another good time to have your favorite fruits is either just before or right after your workout session. It would be much healthier if you take fruits half-an-hour before going for a workout as the sugars that fruits contain will be utilized by the body for getting the required energy. Even after a workout, fruits will provide you with ample amounts of energy as the nutrients and water present in them will keep your body hydrated.
• Do Not Mix Fruits
It is advisable to have one type of fruit at a time. Different fruits are digested by the body in different ways. Having one type of fruit at one go allows easier and faster digestion and nutrition absorption. Fruit Chaats are not such a great idea after all! No Salt, Sugar, Milk, Curd….Fruits are best had by themselves. Have cut fruits or fresh fruit juices within 20 min of being prepared. Carry whole fruits to work.
• Go Seasonal
Have only fresh and seasonal fruits. Only food can life can give us life. Non-seasonal or imported fruits that have been in cold storage for long will lead to health issues over time. Not to mention that they cost much more than their local, seasonal counterparts!
In a nutshell, if you eat your favorite fruits at the right time and manner you can enjoy their numerous health benefits. Incorporating fruits in one’s diet in ample quantities can help in weight loss, body detoxification, energy enhancement, skin care, improved digestive system as well as immunity enhancement.Fruits are the power house of various vitamins, fibers, antioxidants and enzymes that will provide you the secret of living a healthy, beautiful, long and a happy life.
