How to Eat without Eating Too Much?

Eating more is same as eating unhealthy food

A balanced diet is what you need to stay healthy and fit. But, does that mean you can gorge on a balanced diet? Nah! Even when you are eating healthy, if you do not watch your portions, you are sure to put on weight. So, the idea is to eat healthy without starving and yet watching how much you eat.

Now, this can surely seem like a task. There is no doubt that you can take some time getting used to this. However, once you do, you can stop worrying about putting on weight or being undernourished.

Sounds interesting, right? So, how do you eat without eating too much? Let us find out here.

 1.   Eating Enough Proteins: Believe it or not, a protein-rich diet can help keep your midday cravings at check. No wonder then that dieticians recommend eggs for breakfast. According to experts, having eggs in the morning not only controls your appetite but also prevents you from reaching out to that unhealthy snack between meals. However, make sure that you include only 30 grams of protein in each meal. This also ensures proper absorption of nutrients from your meals.

2.   Eating Smaller Meals More Often: Well, this can surely take some effort especially when you have a busy schedule. But, when you eat smaller meals more often, you tend to eat less, thus ensuring that there is no fat accumulation. Also, portioning meals helps you to keep a tab on how much you eat.

3.   Eating when not Hungry: You are bound to eat more and reach out for unhealthy foods when you are hungry. Thus, if you are serious about eating less and packing in a healthy diet, it is advisable that you have your meals when you are not really feeling very hungry. This would prevent you from overeating or eating foods that are high in calories.

4.   Measuring the Portion Sizes: Usually, in the quest to eat less, you tend to overlook the need for including all the essential nutrients in your diet. This is surely not a good idea. The plan is to eat less without scrounging on all the important nutrients. Using measuring cups and spoons or a food scale would ensure that you do not gobble down too much or too less nutrients in your meals.

5.   Going for Healthy Snacks: When you go for portion control, it is quite obvious that you would feel hungry often. However, if you are aiming to stay healthy and fit that tempting bag of crisps or bar of chocolate is a big NO. What you need are some healthy snacks like unsalted nuts, carrot sticks, fruits etc. But remember that you need to portion control your snacks too as overeating of healthy snacks can also lead to putting up of weight.

6.   Chewing your Food Properly: As a child, how often have you been annoyed when your mother or teacher told you to chew your food properly? Well, there is a reason to this. According to health experts, people who do not chew their food well tend to eat more than people who chew their food correctly and swallow it slowly. Though this might sound inconsequential, this actually helps you fill up faster thus ensuring that you eat less. This might seem hard initially. So, until you get into the habit of chewing the food thoroughly, try counting the number of chews before you swallow.

7.   Sipping Not Gulping: This is another thing that you need to take care of. Even if you are drinking unsweetened beverages, you have to keep a check on the amount that you consume each time. The best bet is to use a smaller, slimmer cup or glass rather than taller, deeper ones. Sip the drink instead of gulping it down. This will ensure that you drink lesser amount of your favorite beverage but are still well satiated.

8.   Focus on Food and Nothing Else: The couch potato generation of today is glued to the television or the internet all the time. Thus it comes as no surprise if you tend to eat your meals in front of the television. However, this means that you are distracted while eating and could end up eating more. Experts recommend that if you are focusing on eating less, switch off the television, sit down at the dining table and just focus on your plate. This would make you feel fuller with a lesser amount of healthy food.

Using smaller plates and serving yourself lesser food than you are accustomed to eat is also a good way to ensure that you eat less without starving.

Bite Sized Conclusion

A healthy body is all about finding the perfect balance between what to eat and how much to eat. Overeating the healthy stuff can also lead to weight gain which is why watching your portions is as important as counting the calories. So, try eating healthy but also try not to eat too much.

It is all about portion control and craving control
